Unisex Shirt

This is a classic shirt with a neat but fairly broad shoulder and a very straight torso. Instead of narrowing towards the hips like typically male shaped cuts, there is slightly more room to accommodate the wider hip of more female body shapes.

Suitable for intermediate makers | Sizes XS2 - XL3
Pattern

potters jacket

This piece could see you through the entire year if sewn in a couple of different fabrics. From wool to wax cottons & linens, this style can be adapted for any season. This is one of our trickier pieces due to the welt pockets. It's best to practise a few times before tackling the main fabric but it's well worth the effort.

Suitable for intermediate > advanced makers | Sizes 6 - 20

Our Worker Trousers are the ultimate everyday trouser and our best selling pattern. They are supremely practical with hundreds of you saying they're your comfiest trousers yet. Designed to stand the test of time, you'll be using high end finishing techniques to create a really long lasting pair of trousers.

Sizing: UK Sizes 4 - 28 (with PDF Layers)

Skill level: Intermediate sewers (you will need extra focus for the fly area). If you're an ambitious beginner or tentative intermediate we recommend following our online workshop.

You can search instagram for customer makes with the hashtag #msworkertrousers

The Worker Trousers are slightly lower on the high waisted spectrum, sitting comfortably above the hip but not too high up the waist. They are cut to fit neatly on the body & hips and then flare slightly on the thigh and taper in again at the ankle.

Construction techniques: Concealed button fly or zip fly with binding detailing, side pockets, patch pockets, flat felled seam, waistband & belt loops.

Suitable fabrics: The Worker Trouser works very well in structured heavy to mid weight twills, drills, denims and canvas fabrics. Lighter twills and denims are lovely in the summer and the lighter weight fabrics will give you a slightly looser fit. Before you start check you can easily sew through 5 layers of your chosen fabric.

Fabric requirements: Our lay-plans are always done on a single layer of fabric to reduce wastage.

Fabric width 150cm | Sizes 4 - 12 = 135cm | Sizes 14 - 20 = 190cm | Sizes 18 - 28 = 230cm

Fabric width 110cm | Sizes 4 - 12 = 210cm | Sizes 14 - 20 = 215cm | Sizes 18 - 28 = 230cm

Materials list: Self fabric, fabric for pocket bags & binding - a 40cm strip of lightweight cotton (any width of fabric), 4 x big buttons (around 2.5-3cm) or 1 x big button and 15cm zip, thread, about 40cm of good quality fusing

Pages to print: Instructions - 26, A4/US Letter - 34, A0 - 2

Jesse Jumpsuit PDF Pattern

Regular price £15.00 Save £-15.00

The Jesse Jumpsuit is our answer to wanting an all in one outfit for true comfort, style and casual charm. To help minimise wardrobe decisions in the morning, this cut gives you everything you need in an outfit that’s suitable for all year round. It seems that you guys agree as it's one of our newest patterns but already a best seller.

Sizing: UK Sizes 4 - 28 (with PDF Layers)

Skill level: This pattern is suitable for intermediate sewers

You can search instagram for customer makes with the hashtag #msjessejumpsuit

The Jesse Jumpsuit cut is relaxed but not oversized. The torso is cut to finish just above the hip with the elasticated waistband pulling it up to sit on your waist. The overall rise is elongated with the back rise slightly more baggy than fitted, leaving enough room for the fabric to skim the hips and thighs.

Construction techniques: Welt pocket, french seam side pockets, collar with neck facing, full sleeve, elasticated waistband, mock fell seams, topstitching details and optional zip fastening.

Suitable fabrics: When choosing your fabric for the Jesse Jumpsuit you need to consider a few things. It should be very comfortable and breathable to wear as it covers your whole body (not itchy or scratchy). It’s a nice idea to choose natural fibres to allow your body to breath and the shape of this pattern benefits from having a fabric that is soft and supple with a bit of drape.

Suitable fabrics include light/medium denim, light/medium twill, light weight canvas, needlecord, wool suiting, linen (beware as linen will crease heavily).

Fabric requirements: Our lay-plans are always done on a single layer of fabric to reduce wastage.

Fabric width 150cm | Sizes 4 - 12 = 250cm | Sizes 14 - 20 = 290cm | Sizes 22 - 28 = 310cm

Fabric width 110cm | Sizes 4 - 12 = 340cm | Sizes 14 - 20 = 350cm | Sizes 22 - 28 = 420cm

Materials list: Self fabric, fabric for pocket bags & binding - a 40cm strip of lightweight cotton (any width of fabric), 4 x buttons (around 1.5/2cm) or 3 x buttons (around 1.5/2cm) and 16-18cm zip, elastic (roughly 3cm wide), thread in a colour of your choice and about 80cm of good quality fusing

Pages to print: Instructions - 32, A4/US Letter - 75, A0 - 4

Unisex Shirt PDF Pattern

Regular price £12.50 Save £-12.50

The Unisex Shirt is a classic men’s shirt that has been slightly modified to accommodate the curves of a female body. It sits broader on the shoulder than the Classic Shirt and generally has a leaner silhouette.

Here at the Modern Sewing Co. we love shirt making. Once you've learnt the techniques to a high standard you can apply them again and again. If you're totally new to shirt making you might like to consider our Art of Shirt Making workshop bundle. Click through for more details on how find your feet with tailoring.

Sizing: Mens sizes XS2 - XL3 / Women's sizes 4 - 20 (with PDF Layers)

Skill level: Intermediate sewers. This piece is constructed almost identically to the Over Shirt which is why the Art of Shirt Making workshop is a great option.

You can search instagram for customer makes with the hashtag #msunisexshirt

This is a classic style shirt with a neat but fairly broad shoulder and a very straight torso. Instead of narrowing towards the hips like typically male shaped cuts, there is slightly more room to accommodate the wider hip of more female body shapes. This pattern comes with 3 different sleeve length options.

The Spring Trousers are designed to feel breezy and elegant with plenty of space to move. They work amazingly well in a huge range of fabrics, from silks to denims, linens and heavy corduroys. Both work equally well which is unusually versatile for a pattern.

Sizing: Sizes 4 - 28 (with PDF Layers)

Skill level: Intermediate sewers. You might like to take a look at our Art of Trouser Making workshop if you're relatively new to making trousers. This bundle will give you a solid skill set to help make your Spring Trousers to a high standard.

Darcy Coat PDF Pattern

Regular price £15.00 Save £-15.00

The Darcy Coat is an elegant and comfortable coat that is designed for throwing over any outfit. Whether you're wearing chunky winter layers or a simple summer outfit, the Darcy Coat will drape over the top and work with your body not against it.

You can create winter or summer versions which can be lined or unlined (you will receive instructions for both options). You can also choose between welt pockets or patch pockets depending on your skill level and your intended style for the piece. This is the probably the most complex make in our range but it is well worth the effort.

Sizing: Sizes 4 - 28 (with PDF Layers)

Skill level: Intermediate / advanced sewers (there are design options for first time coat makers and also experienced sewers)

You can search instagram for customer makes with the hashtag #msdarcycoat

The Darcy Coat is very oversized and roomy with plenty of room for thick layers to be worn underneath. Due to the amount of volume it’s best to size down if you’re in-between sizes.

Cara Top PDF Pattern

Regular price £12.50 Save £-12.50

Click here for the online workshop option (suitable for beginners).

The Cara Top is a simple summer blouse that's flexible enough to wear in a wafty muslin at the beach or in a smarter silk as part of a wedding two-piece. It comes with 2 length options, shorter to sit right on the hip or a little longer to hit the top of the thigh.

It is a simple piece to make which means it’s a great project for beginners, however this doesn’t mean we cut corners on the construction quality. You’ll be using french seam construction and you’ll have the option of a double fold hem or a flat binding to finish the hem and armholes.

Sizing: Sizes 4 - 28 (with PDF Layers)

Skill level: Suitable for beginners and early makers. If you're a total beginner we recommend following our online workshop to start your sewing journey.

You can search instagram for customer makes with the hashtag #mscaratop

Getting your fit right for the Cara Top is relatively simple. The main measurement you need to check is the bust, making sure you choose a size that has a bit of room for movement.
