Materials Needed

Suitable fabrics: The Worker Trouser works very well in structured heavy to mid weight twills, drills, denims and canvas fabrics. Lighter twills and denims are lovely in the summer and the lighter weight fabrics will give you a slightly looser fit. Before you start check you can easily sew through 5 layers of your chosen fabric.

Fabric requirements (Womens): Our lay-plans are always done on a single layer of fabric to reduce wastage.

Fabric width 150cm | Sizes 4 - 12 = 135cm | Sizes 14 - 20 = 190cm | Sizes 18 - 28 = 230cm

Fabric width 110cm | Sizes 4 - 12 = 210cm | Sizes 14 - 20 = 215cm | Sizes 18 - 28 = 230cm

Materials list: Self fabric, fabric for pocket bags & binding - a 40cm strip of lightweight cotton (any width of fabric), 4 x big buttons (around 2.5-3cm) or 1 x big button and 15cm zip, thread, about 40cm of good quality fusing

Pages to print: Instructions - 26, A4/US Letter - 34, A0 - 2

Fabric requirements (Mens): Fabric width 150cm | Sizes XS2 - M = 200cm | Sizes L - XL3 = 230cm

Fabric width 110cm | Sizes XS2 - M = 220cm | Sizes L - XL3 = 230cm

How to use PDF Patterns

Where to find your patterns & workshops:

After purchasing you'll find your PDF pattern download and any workshops in your account page. Simply log in (or create an account using the same email address used to purchase) and click the account button in the top right corner. The most up to date versions of the patterns will always be available from within your account. If any changes are made to the pattern or instructions you’ll receive an email notification.

Opening your files:

Some older Window computers have problems opening zip files. If this is the case, you can use the free programme 7-Zip to open your files.

How to print your pattern:

You have two options for printing out your pattern.

1. You can get it printed in A0 at a printing shop or sewing pattern company. Search for "sewing pattern printing company" to find a company that does this in your region.

2. Or you can print it yourself on a home printer in A4 or US Letter format and then tile the pages together using tape.

Using PDF layers:

All of our patterns come with PDF layers so you can select the sizes you want to view and print. To do this you’ll need a PDF viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader (this is free to download).

Sewing Room company!

Having the Worker Trouser workshop video to guide me in my sewing was an excellent experience. It added a methodical and calming tone to the process. I had simply to watch Hetty show the next step, then pause the video and go take that step. At times I referred to the written instructions as well, for more clarity or for a different technique (I used the zip fly method which is not covered in the video). In order to address the fit, I started with a toile and the Top Down Center Out method which I have used before (referring to The Crooked Hem's youtube videos). I am glad to see that a new trouser fitting video has been added to my Modern Sewing Company account - I look forward to using it on my next pair of Worker Trousers!

Perfect pants for everyday wear!

This is the second pair of pants I have ever made , and it all worked out very well, much thanks to the very helpful workshop I bought together with the pattern. I love the curved waistband, which seems to work better for me than a straight one. The fit is a bit roomy without feeling baggy. I would say the fit is exceptionally good and I believe it will suit different body types. I made the pants in a soft twill. Next time I will go with a stiffer fabric. I am already planning my second pair and a shorts. So happy to have found this pattern!

Delighted with my first worker trousers

First time facing the challenge of making a structured pair of trousers. The finish I achieved was only achieved by watching the video ( several times for the trickier components). Chose to insert a zip fly and would have loved a video version for this but the photos were really helpful. The only part that was unclear was where to do the first snip when doing the fly. Chose size 16 according to measurement but think I might go down a size for next version
