Cara Top PDF Pattern
The Cara Top is a simple summer blouse that's flexible enough to wear in a wafty muslin at the beach or in a smarter silk as part of a wedding two-piece. It comes with 2 length options, shorter to sit right on the hip or a little longer to hit the top of the thigh.
It is a simple piece to make which means it’s a great project for beginners, however this doesn’t mean we cut corners on the construction quality. You’ll be using french seam construction and you’ll have the option of a double fold hem or a flat binding to finish the hem and armholes.

Hi Hetty
It went good, instructions were easy to follow but I should have gone a size biger. I'm 1.75 m tall and have wide shulders so I should have sewn a 12 instead of a 10. The dot sits to high and I had to lower the armhole. I made it out of a thrifted man shirt. Have a look at Insta toto.me.made. By Oana
The Cara top was a great beginner project. I found the video tutorial to be extremely helpful as it helped me understand how all the steps came together. Through this project, I learned how to make a button stand and a curved hem. I also swapped the collar out for bias binding --another technique that has helped me tackle trickier projects since. I think the design of this blouse is extremely understated and I did not expect it to look and feel as elegant when worn. If you're just starting out with Hetty's designs, I'd highly recommend starting with this blouse as the instructions are fantastic and leave little room for error. I plan on making matching Spring trousers to match my Cara top!
This is the second pattern I have made from the Modern sewing company (my first was the Frida shirt) and once again I am very pleased. The pattern itself is beautifully drafted and goes together easily. I made the shorter length in a liberty tana lawn and it will be perfect for warmer weather. All the seams inside are finished with french seams and the collar attaches neatly. I like the clean and stylish lines of this top and having read the blog page on the website I can see plenty of ideas for future makes. This is definitely a 5 star rated pattern.
