This workshop is the perfect starting point for absolute beginners. You'll learn how to put together a simple garment using care and precision. This is a great workshop if you're just beginning your sewing journey as it will give you a solid skillset and good habits to build on.

    Format: Pre-recorded tutorial - 56 minutes. You can watch it in your own time as many times as you want.

    What You'll Learn

    The workshop will take you through at a steady pace and included built in chapters to break down the project into bitesize stages. You will learn how to sew with more precision, using french seams, applying binding techniques and neat hemming. The course will encourage you to sew with close attention to detail, often using millimetres instead of centimetres as guidelines to encourage aiming for precision. This is a great starting point on the journey to sewing more high quality pieces for your wardrobe.

    Getting your fit right for the Cara Top is relatively simple. The main measurement you need to check is the bust, making sure you choose a size that has a bit of room for movement.

    How to use PDF Patterns

    Where to find your patterns & workshops:

    After purchasing you'll find your PDF pattern download and any workshops in your account page. Simply log in (or create an account using the same email address used to purchase) and click the account button in the top right corner. The most up to date versions of the patterns will always be available from within your account. If any changes are made to the pattern or instructions you’ll receive an email notification.

    Opening your files:

    Some older Window computers have problems opening zip files. If this is the case, you can use the free programme 7-Zip to open your files.

    How to print your pattern:

    You have two options for printing out your pattern.

    1. You can get it printed in A0 at a printing shop or sewing pattern company. Search for "sewing pattern printing company" to find a company that does this in your region.

    2. Or you can print it yourself on a home printer in A4 or US Letter format and then tile the pages together using tape.

    Using PDF layers:

    All of our patterns come with PDF layers so you can select the sizes you want to view and print. To do this you’ll need a PDF viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader (this is free to download).

    Beautiful Linen Shirt

    I purchased the Cara Top with the Workshop. I made it in a 4 ounce white linen and it looks absolutely professional. I love the drape and the stand up collar! I did not make a toile, so it's on me that I had to adjust the sizing as I went along. I felt so confident with Hetty skillfullying demonstrating each step as we went along. My only issue is that the underarm gaps at tad more than I prefer, making it perfect for layering over my white linen Array Top. My shirt is a combination of size 8 and 6. I am 5'5" and weight about 119 pounds. I will definitely sew this again. My sister tried it on too and she just loves it!

    Beautiful shirt I’ll be making again

    Second modern sewing company project (after the Cara top). I made this as a gift for my mother, and added the collar from the Cara top because I liked that style so much. Apart from a silly mistake I made sewing on the collar (over-confident, and didn’t rewatch video thoroughly), this variation worked out well. I’d love more hacks on how to add different collars to things - what about a Peter Pan collar hack? Overall just an amazing product, the workshops make the whole thing so achievable and fun. Thank you Hettie so much!
