Introducing the Paloma Top sewing pattern. Our brand new summer top design is very different to our classic shirt patterns, but still feels unmistakably part of the The Modern Sewing Co. Combining soft structure, high quality finishing details and pretty elements that combine practical purpose, it's now a firm favourite in our summer wardrobe and we hope it will be for you, too.
This is the first time we've explored gathering as a sewing technique, and we think it adds a real sense of playfulness to the Paloma Top. This pattern is designed to not require many adjustments: the bust has plenty of ease and you can adjust the front with how many gathers you'd like, and the width of the shoulders, too.
Our sewing patterns are designed to be both beautiful and functional, and the gathering and pretty side ties on the Paloma Top definitely deliver on this front.
We launched the Paloma Top sewing pattern at the height of London's heatwave, and it couldn't have been better timing. This is such a cooling top to wear in summer. There's lots of room for air flow and movement, thanks to the structured side slits, which are a lovely new detail that hasn't featured in any of our patterns so far.
The Paloma Top and our recently released Rowan Skirt are perfectly paired, and designed to sit beautifully when worn together. The A-line from the top flows into the A-line skirt, creating a really lovely silhouette, and the gathered details mirror each other perfectly.
Who is the Paloma Top Sewing Pattern for?
The Paloma Top sewing pattern is ideal for intermediate sewists, or for ambitious beginners who have sewn at least 1-2 items before. If you’ve already taken The Art of Shirt Making or The Art of Dress Making Online Workshops, this is ideal for building on your existing sewing skills.

As with all The Modern Sewing Co. patterns, the Paloma Top is available in a range of sizes: UK 4-28 / US 2-26 / EU 32-56. If you're unsure, you can double check against our standard sizing under the 'Body Measurements' dropdown here.
