This month's Maker Spotlight features Christina who's been on my radar since the early days of launching Modern Sewing Co..
If I really dig back into my memory I believe Christina was one of the first people to post about my patterns (it was the Over Shirt). Art the time I was new to the world of home sewing and every tagged post brought huge excitement so she really stuck in my memory.
Since then she's made so many beautiful pieces and putting this email together has been a delight. I feels so good to see what people do with our patterns and in Christina's case she's created a collection of pieces that feel timeless and totally personal to her.
You can have a scroll through her makes and read what she thought of each pattern - enjoy!

Unisex Shirt
"I struggle with button up shirts because of my broad shoulders (both ready to wear and memade). I’ve made a handful of patterns and they either end up with limited mobility in my arms or too big because I needed to size up to get the ease in the shoulders. I know there are adjustments to fix this but sometimes the right pattern comes along and you don’t have to do anything to make it perfect…. That’s the Unisex Shirt for me!
At this point, I’ve made 4 versions (striped cotton poplin, white linen, blue oxford and midweight denim) and have at least 2-3 more in my head. The drafting is excellent, and the instructions make for a very clean finish. Even though I did end up sizing up from an XL to a 2XL, it fits like an effortlessly easy shirt that I can dress up or down. Honestly can’t wait to fill my wardrobe with them!"
Over Shirt
"The Over Shirt is the first patten I made from Modern Sewing Co and was my most detailed make to date at the time. I was intimidated to tackle a stand collar and placket, but the clear instructions honestly made it a breeze for me. I made it in a lightweight striped twill for a spring trip to the UK and it was the perfect laying piece.
I recently made a second iteration based off a photo that Hetty shared awhile back on Instagram. I used a olive herringbone cotton, lengthened 4”, omitted the collar and changed up the pockets to make my idea fall/winter jacket for my climate (Texas doesn’t get very cold but I want to live out my best cold weather vibes, ha)."
Celia Dress
"The Celia Dress is one of my most worn makes ever! I used a hemp cotton blend from Merchant and Mills and paired with this design makes, it’s the perfect dress to throw on when I need to feel put together. I’ve done countless work presentations in it! I’ve got another version planned in a micro check navy gingham for fall."
And the rest...!
"I could go on and on about all the Modern Sewing Co patterns I’ve made but instead I’ll just share a few photos of the others."
