The Darcy Coat is an elegant and comfortable coat that is designed for throwing over any outfit. Whether you're wearing chunky winter layers or a simple summer outfit, the Darcy Coat will drape over the top and work with your body not against it.
You can create winter or summer versions which can be lined or unlined (you will receive instructions for both options) and the pattern now comes with two lengths. You can choose between welt pockets or patch pockets depending on your skill level and and our additional Gusset Pocket hack is included with the pattern. This is the probably the most complex make in our range but it is well worth the effort.

Darcy Coat PDF Pattern
Absolutely loved this sew! I will definitely make this coat again in various versions. It’s a lovely design, and you can really change the vibe with your fabric choice — from classic to fun and casual.
The pattern does say it’s roomy and suggests sizing down if you prefer. Having made a few patterns from modern sewing company, I’ve always found them very true to size, so I decided to go with my usual size (10). It turned out to be massive 🤣 I only really noticed once the shell was together and had to do some very creative adjustments, chopping quite a bit away to get it to fit. If I sew this again, I’ll go two sizes down.
The coat has a dropped sleeve, with an option to add a shoulder pad — on the sleeve line. I found this very confusing because it didn’t look right at all, with the shoulder pad sitting halfway down your arm. Maybe I misunderstood something at this step.
One last thing to point out: I do have short arms — all my sleeves are usually too long. I checked the sleeve length before cutting, but I didn’t fully take into account the dropped sleeve, which left me needing to remove about 8 cm. I also made some adjustments to lift the dropped sleeve slightly, as it was sitting halfway down my arm.
Overall, a lovely coat and a super enjoyable sew.
*Im 166, and a size 10 - made the coat in a size 10, wool tweed with Kash satin lining.
Absolutely loved making this, the instructions were great and I really took it slow as recommended! I know I'll be wearing this coat in years to come.
I sized down but it's still nice and roomy.
By far the most challenging garment I’ve made since starting sewing 4 years ago. I took my time as the instructions suggested and made this slowly over a few months, the result is so much better than I ever expected! The instructions are beautifully detailed and laid out, with really useful drawings of each stage. The suggestions for alterations on the website are really clear and mean you can really make this pattern into your perfect coat. I’m so pleased I pushed myself to make this and will be wearing it for years to come!
