The Spring Trousers are designed to feel breezy and elegant with plenty of space to move. They work amazingly well in a huge range of fabrics, from silks to denims, linens and heavy corduroys. Your fabric choice will determine the character of your garment; you could make a cosy corduroy trouser for winter or a floaty silk piece for a wedding. Both work equally well which is unusually versatile for a pattern.

Materials Needed
Suitable fabrics: This piece is predominantly designed to work with linens and light cottons, however there is also scope to play with heavier fabrics. Starting at the lighter end of the scale, linens and lightweight cottons are ideal for this piece. Silk and tencel are also great options for a more floaty and sophisticated look. If you want to make a wintery pair, this cut works well in a heavy brushed twill or a corduroy.
Winter fabrics: heavy denims, heavy brushed twills, wool suiting, corduroy
Summer fabrics: light/medium denims, cottons, silks, sturdy linen
Fabric requirements: Our lay-plans are always done on a single layer of fabric to reduce wastage.
Fabric width 150cm | Sizes 4 - 12 = 230cm | Sizes 14 - 20 = 240cm | Sizes 18 - 28 = 250cm
Fabric width 110cm | Sizes 4 - 12 = 230cm | Sizes 14 - 20 = 260cm | Sizes 18 - 28 = 325cm

Spring Trousers PDF Pattern
decided to go for the spring trousers as my first semi-hard pair of pants. they were an utter and total flop. The instructions for the zip fly were lacking, and the online picture guide didn't help much. Ended up paying for the pants workshop, and now i think i will be able to sew them, as the workshop makes it all very easy to understand. Cannot help but speculate ....
I'm a confident beginner, and like to challenge myself with something out of my comfort zone sometimes. This was the perfect pattern for my first zip-fly pair of trousers. Yes, I did get confused at a point, but I found a step-by-step photo guide on this website for the zip-fly and it was super helpful to get it perfect.
I love the overall construction of the trousers, and the details of the pattern. The fit ended up just perfect (probably also helped by the elastic in the back ;) ). I've used a linen fabric, and the trousers are fabulously flowy and airy, I can imagine wearing them all spring and summer. Will deffo make again, and can't wait to experiment with the fabric weight and style. Total recommend.
This pattern produces a beautifully finished garment and I have really learned a lot of fantastic techniques. However unfortunately the style of the finished garment didn't suit me. I measured carefully but the garment had way more room over the hip than I expected and more fabric in the leg width than I expected even for a wide leg trousers style. I think it would maybe suit a taller person better. I am 5 feet and 5 inches. I think for me I would prefer a version without the front pleats and a wide but more tapered leg style. I ended up removing some width from the side seams of the finished garment to make it more useable for me, but this did mean I lost the nice top stitching on the outer leg seams.
