Introducing: The Racer Vest

I’m so excited to share our newest pattern with you… the Racer Vest!

This one is a bit of a surprise launch. I usually plan my launches months in advance but this was a last minute one that I couldn’t resist. I’ve wanted to make a racer vest since last summer but I struggled to find time to develop the pattern amidst the other launches earlier this year.
Luckily I found myself with a quieter week of work and I was able to dip a toe into this new design.
And once I’d dipped the toe in, there was no turning back.
I was hooked and I had to get it perfect.
And once I got it to ‘perfect’ it wasn’t enough to just make a handful for myself, I had to share it!
So here we are with a surprise pattern release!
This is the simplest pattern in the range, and perhaps the most wearable. It’s a classic racer vest with considered finishing details and the opportunity to play with contrast colours on the neck and armhole bindings.

With this pattern it was about getting the small details right. The scoop of the neck sits comfortably on the collar bones and the armhole scoops nice and low to avoid sweaty contact with armpits. The binding joins together at the shoulders to create a narrow ‘strap’ for a much more feminine framing of the torso. And the length is long enough to tuck into trousers but short enough to keep untucked too.

The development process was really about finding the right curves on the neck and armhole which took some too-ing and fro-ing but I’m really pleased with the result. It’s really not a complicated piece but the small details have been very carefully thought through.

It also happens to be the easiest piece in the range to sew so it’s beginner friendly and also short-of-time friendly (perfect for that pre-holiday realisation that you have nothing to pack for the sun.) I’ll be posting a video of the making process on instagram so you can see how it’s made.

This launch email is short and sweet, just like the pattern. I hope you enjoy it!

All of the jersey photographed was purchased from Raystitch - it’s beautiful quality and the colour options are fantastic.
