How to use PDF Patterns

Where to find your patterns & workshops:

After purchasing you'll find your PDF pattern download and any workshops in your account page. Simply log in (or create an account using the same email address used to purchase) and click the account button in the top right corner. The most up to date versions of the patterns will always be available from within your account. If any changes are made to the pattern or instructions you’ll receive an email notification.

Opening your files:

Some older Window computers have problems opening zip files. If this is the case, you can use the free programme 7-Zip to open your files.

How to print your pattern:

You have two options for printing out your pattern.

1. You can get it printed in A0 at a printing shop or sewing pattern company. Search for "sewing pattern printing company" to find a company that does this in your region.

2. Or you can print it yourself on a home printer in A4 or US Letter format and then tile the pages together using tape.

Using PDF layers:

All of our patterns come with PDF layers so you can select the sizes you want to view and print. To do this you’ll need a PDF viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader (this is free to download).

More details on printing, using PDF layers and general preparation tips can be found on the ‘Using Our Patterns’ document (download for free here). This document comes with all of our patterns.

I love the look of this shirt

My first foray into the Modern Sewing patterns. I purchased the capsule wardrobe. So far I have sewn the FRIDA TOP and the Classic Shirt. Frida fit well in my size. With the Classic Shirt, I felt the sleeve was snug( I have “fluffy” arms), so I removed the sleeve and cut a larger sized sleeve and retraced the larger arms onto my already cut fabric. Voila, I solved the problem. Now I love the fit! These are nicely drafted patterns. I can’t wait to sew the other patterns.

Lovely bundle

This is my first purchase fromThe Modern Sewing Co, but I'd been eying the patterns up for a while. I really like the selection in this bundle and as I managed to buy it in the sale it was a real bargain! So far I've only attempted the overshirt, but I'm really pleased with it. The PDF was easy the print out (I used the A4 version and printed it on my home printer) and the instructions were very easy to follow. I used some fabric I'd had lying around at home as a first 'try out' but I'm now encouraged to go and shop for some better fabric and will make a few more versions. I've also printed off the patterns for the worker trousers and the Frida shirt, so they're the next projects I'll be tackling. I travel a lot and this curated collection - when I've finished making it - will be a great capsule wardrobe to take with me. I plan a light weight and a winter weight version.
I will definitely be adding to my collection of patterns with more purchases from this maker.

Beauty and function

This is such a delightful set of patterns to build up a handmade wardrobe. I particularly love the Overshirt, Worker Trousers, and Frida Shirt (so far). I've made winter-weight versions to get me through the cool temperatures in Seattle, and am excited to make some linen versions for the springtime. The instructions are clear and thorough; I like the beautiful finishing touches to construction that elevate these functional garments. I'm looking forward to making the Classic Shirt and Potters Jacket (especially love that this is lined) soon. Overall, I think this is a pattern set that will work well for both advanced beginner and seasoned sewists.
