FAQs
How does the Capsule Course work?
The capsule course is a self guided course with projects set each month.
Preparation Month:
The course will be open to join for one month and once you’ve enrolled you’ll have the rest of the month to start preparing. This will involve choosing your fabrics, materials and patterns and doing the optional preparation month project. This is a slightly easier initial project following an online workshop which is recommended for beginners.
Monthly Projects:
On the 1st of each month you'll receive your project for the month ahead. You'll be making your garments using the PDF pattern instructions along with the additional course guides and videos. Some months also come with an accompanying online workshop. You’ll be able to post any questions on the course forum as well as share your finished make at the end of the month.
What does the course content include?
Patterns & online workshops: you’ll receive the patterns and any accompanying online workshops
Introductory video: at the start of each month you’ll receive an introductory video explaining the project for the month and touching on areas you’ll be focussing on
Monthly content: each month there will be a different theme for learning. For example, one month might be focussed on how to make a lined jacket. In this instance the additional course content will include step-by-step videos and photos on how to sew a fully lined coat.
Fitting advice will be touched on, with the option to discuss more in-depth. There will also be free pattern downloads for features such as pockets.
Each month is different and we’ll be planning the course to try to give a well rounded making experience.
Access to the forum: the forum is where we’ll be sharing our makes and answering each others questions. Hetty and Emily will both be active in the course forum to answer questions and we will be checking in every day (aside from weekends).
The monthly content will be delivered via email and you’ll also get a pdf download to keep for future use.
Is it suitable for beginners?
The capsule course is suitable for ambitious beginners and intermediate sewers. We want our courses to be fully accessible and beginners will have the tools to start sewing at this high level. It will require time commitment and focus from early sewers but it's absolutely achievable.
If you’d prefer slower progression you might like to start with individual workshops and build up to doing a capsule course. Check out our Beginners Guide for guidance on how to get started.
What if I already own some of the patterns and workshops?
If you already own some of the patterns and workshops included in the course you can buy the 'course only' option which will give you full course access.
Do I have to stay on track with the timeline?
This is your sewing project so you can take it at your own pace. If you’re not able to complete the projects each month you can finish them in your own time. You’ll have the patterns, workshops and course guidance to refer back to after the course has finished.
Will there be contact with Hetty?
This is a self guided course and our focus is on giving you great quality content to help you create your garments and keep for future use. Support is provided through the course forum where Hetty and Emily will both be active to answer questions. We will be checking in every day aside from weekends.
