Digital Marketing Manager
We are looking for an experienced and passionate creative to join our team as a Marketing & Communications Manager.
The Modern Sewing Co. creates and sells modern sewing patterns and online workshops to a global community of sewists. Our brand ethos is that anyone can sew beautiful, high quality clothing from their own home and we make it achievable and exciting to do so. We have an engaged and loyal audience from all over the world and it’s our mission to not only reach more home sewists but also to encourage the younger generation to try sewing instead of shopping.
Digital marketing is the heart and soul of the Modern Sewing Co., with our weekly newsletters and posts helping to inspire and guide our audience to sew. Our tone is varied and ranges from sewing advice to community makes, in-depth pattern analysis, seasonal inspiration, opinion pieces, design hacks, reflections and product announcements. We’re looking for someone to continue this varied style and keep up with marketing trends, run paid ad campaigns, create content across all platforms and look after our customer care as we grow.
Your responsibilities as a Marketing & Communications Manager will include:
- Ensuring our paid and organic marketing is in line with our goals for growth
- Planning a varied and inspiring social media calendar
- Creating and editing content for social media and our website using a mixture of photography, videos and creative graphics
- Writing email campaigns to target specific customers
- Improve and maintain email flows
- Keep up to date on the latest social media trends
- Maintain consistent brand messaging throughout all platforms
- Answering customer service emails each day - as the business grows we plan to separate this out of the role but initially it will be included, taking around 1 hour a day.
In more depth:
Growth & Forecasting:
- Work together with Hetty (founder) to set monthly and quarterly goals for marketing and paid ads, monitoring progress and being proactive to adjust course
- Analysing opportunities for growth by improving metrics such as customer retention and conversion rate
- Conducting customer and competitor research and maintaining an awareness of our position in the market
Instagram:
- Plan a monthly content schedule and brainstorm engaging ideas based around sewing
- Film instagram, content and edit the results to create high quality, creative videos
- Photograph any picture content and edit the results
- Use graphics to enhance communication
TikTok:
- Oversee building an audience on a new channel
- Create video content suitable for a TikTok audience/repost instagram videos on TikTok
Klaviyo:
- Write a mixture of short and long form newsletters based on the topic of the week, written in the M.S.Co tone of voice
- Work on improvements to current flows
- Monitor success of flows and brainstorm improvements
- Upload the newsletters to the website blog
Meta Ads:
- Manage the Meta ad account and monitor the weekly progress of ads
- Analyse success and develop new ideas to test
- Contribute to creative brainstorming for producing video ads
Customer service emails:
- Answering customer service emails every week day (around 1 hour or less)
Outreach & collaborations (PR):
- Contacting potential collaborators such as likeminded companies to work on mini shared projects
- Communicating with influencers to set up collaborations
Your Skills:
We are a small but growing business and so we're looking for someone who's enthusiastic about working in a small team, who's ready to work with us as we grow and who will relish the opportunity of shaping the role. We're looking for a personable creative thinker who see's potential in this business and is excited to be part of it.
In terms of skills we are looking for:
- Strong written communication skills for writing our long form emails. Being able to write in the tone of the company is paramount, as well as answering customer emails. For examples of our newsletters check out our blog - https://modernsewingco.com/blogs/news
- Photography, videography and editing skills - this can be using a phone or our simple camera but it’s important you have a good eye and an understanding of our aesthetic to be able to create high quality content.
- Experience in using either Shopify or Google Analytics to extract and examine data.
- An understanding of sewing isn't necessary but we're looking to work with someone likeminded who is interested in creative pursuits and keen to work in a small business with a close knit team.
- A good eye for graphics and the general company aesthetic and experience in working with Canva/Illustrator/Capcut/Premiere Pro.
Hours & Pay:
- This role is a full time position, however we'd be open to applications for 4 days a week. Our team days in Hackney studio are Tuesday-Thursday with Monday and Friday being optional WFH days.
- Our working hours are 9am - 5.30pm
- PAYE salary is £38,000 - 45,000 depending on experience
