What you'll learn:

This workshop will take beginner and intermediate sewers through the process of creating their own capsule wardrobe from start to finish.

The key to long lasting garments is a high quality of make and this workshop series will give you in depth and detailed guidance for a professional finish. You'll learn a huge array of construction techniques and each step will be explained thoroughly with no stone left unturned.

The Series:

1. Cara Top - Starting with this beginners piece you'll get to grips with the basics and will be introduced to detailed sewing techniques at an achievable level. (Available in sizes 4 - 28)

2. Frida Shirt - Next we'll build things up to introduce more making elements to a paired back blouse with sleeves. (Available in sizes 6 - 28)

3. Over Shirt - Your introduction into shirt making will take things to the next level and you'll be able to sew a full shirt with proper tailoring techniques. It might sound big but it's 100% achievable when broken down into a simple step-by-step guide. (Available in sizes 6 - 28)

4. Daphne Trousers - Moving on to trousers, you'll learn how to sew a zip fly with additional binding detailing to give a high quality finish. Fiddly but very satisfying. (Available in sizes 4 - 28)

5. Worker Trousers - And finally you'll master the Worker Trouser with the concealed button fly, front pockets, binding details and waistband with belt loops. The creme de la creme. (Available in sizes 4 - 28)

Here at the Modern Sewing Co. shirt making is one of our favourite activities. It requires precision, patience, an eye for detail and it gives so many opportunities for creative flare. It's a highly satisfying art form once you've got the knack and one that pays dividends for your wardrobe.

For this bundle we've combined all 3 of our shirt patterns with a workshop to give you the tools and skills to create your own mini shirt range.

This series includes:

3 x PDF Patterns: Over Shirt, Unisex Shirt & Classic Shirt

1 x Pre-recorded Tutorial: Over Shirt Workshop - 2 hours 13 minutes. You can watch the workshop in your own time as many times as you want.

Sewing process:

We recommend completing the series in the following order:

1. Over Shirt Workshop (pre-recorded tutorial)

2. Unisex Shirt (PDF instructions). This is an identical making process to the Over Shirt.

3. Classic Shirt (PDF instructions). This making process is slightly different as it features a curved hem and french seams however the main principles of shirt making remain the same.

Over Shirt Workshop:

The workshop will take you through at a steady pace and included built in chapters to break down the project into bitesize stages. You will learn how to sew with precision, using run & fell seams, sewing complicated plackets & cuff openings, classic collar construction and plenty of detailed top stitching.

The Art of Trouser Making

In our opinion trousers are just about the most useful garments you can make and it's a wonderful skill to be able to sew them to a really high standard. It is a technical process that requires precision, care and attention to detail and it can be a good idea to invest in guided teaching to save time learning by yourself.

This series will take you through the process of making trousers and enable you to make 3 different pairs using professional sewing techniques.

This series includes:

3 x PDF Patterns: Worker Trousers, Daphne Trousers & Spring Trousers

2 x Pre-recorded Tutorials: Worker Trouser Workshop (2 hours, 18 minutes) and Daphne Trouser Workshop (1 hour, 13 minutes). You can watch the workshop in your own time as many times as you want.

Level: Intermediates and ambitious beginners

Sizes: UK Sizes 4 - 28 (with PDF Layers)

What you'll learn:

Across the two trouser workshops you'll learn how to do 2 different fly fastenings: a zip fly and a concealed button fly, both of which are finished with internal binding. You will learn how to sew other trouser construction areas including closing the crotch, waistbands (a 3-piece waistband and a 1-piece waistband), belt loops, front pockets with facings, patch pockets, flat felled seams, topstitching details and buttons & button holes.

These skills will be transferable to any garment you sew, in particular all future pairs of trousers.

The process:

To start the series we recommend starting with the Daphne Trouser and watching the guided tutorial for this style. Once you've made this piece you'll be able to build on these skills in the Worker Trouser workshop.

Once you've completed both of these workshops you'll have all the knowledge needed to make the Spring Trousers by following the PDF instructions.
